Turtle, Turtle!

"Am I not turtley enough for the turtle club? Turtle, turtle, turtle! " ~ Pistachio Disguisey

Will found this little guy while raking the yard. Luckily, he noticed before he raked him that he wasn't a leaf :)
You lookin' at me??
My internet search tells me he is probably an Ornate Box Turtle. We found one for sale for $160!! And ours was free! :) We are going to take him out away from busy roads and set him free though. Just keeping him long enough for his photo shoot, and for RJ to get to watch him for a while...

Those are great shots, and what a wonderful find and rescue operation.

How lovely! We used to keep tortoises here in the UK but I think there is some law now. Shame...I always wanted one.

Another creature! It's much cuter than the one I discovered in my yard. And I wasn't about to get close enough for a photo.

What a cutie. A pair of them actually.

The kids at K's preschool found a turtle this week, also. From what I remember, they look pretty similar.

Cute little fellow! But be sure to wash your hands good after handling them. They no longer sell small turtles in the U.S. because they carry Salmonella and pose a risk, especially to small children.

Way ahead of you Carla...RJ is not allowed to touch him at all. I was familiar with the salmonella from having Geckos a few years ago. :)

Awww - he is so cute! My hubby brings home turtles all the time that he's rescued from the middle of roads and then we set them free in his parent's creek. (He even brings home snapping turtles, which are quite scary).

I love these photos. There's a special turtle in my family, name of Raphael. He came to live with my aunt and uncle and their three grandsons back when the Teenage Mutant Turtles were on TV, etc., back in the 1980s. I think there were two others, too, but I can't remember. Anyway Raphael is a wonderful companion turtle. By that I mean he lives in the kitchen in a great big shallow plastic box, but every day Aunt Baker lets him have free time out in the house. He usually ends up in the sun that streams in the patio door. If he's out when you open their back door, he'll walk towards the door, like he's checking to see who's come to visit. I've seen him walk over to the dryer and look at it when my aunt was drying her grandsons' tennis shoes in it--klunk, klunk, klunk. Raphael likes to follow you across the den, down the hall and into the bathroom--honest! I always used to say, "Come on, Raphael. Let's go to the bathroom," and there he'd be, turning into the bathroom door right behind me. Aunt Baker takes excellent care of him, feeds him right, bathes him off beneath a gentle stream of water at the kitchen sink faucet, changes his water and cleans his box. He's a blessed turtle.

Sounds like a VERY blessed and amicable tortoise :) Ours is nowhere near that friendly. Sounds like your Aunt has a way with turtles.
