That picture is quite inspiring and warming. Apart from the dress- making skill involved, I've long thought that there is something more devoted about making something for someone than buying it. Some people scoff at those older customs and values, but they might be part of the past that we would be better off preserving or returning to. My mother made clothes for our children, too, and it was quite a special thing to do.
I forgot to mention - if you are wondering who I am and how I found your site: some months back you left a comment on my blog which I appreciated. It was http://threeswans.blogspot.com, back around March this year. I value the comments and just thought I'd maintain some contact with fellow Christians.
My Mom made a lot of our clothes, I think the main intent was to save money, but it was exciting to pick out a pattern and a material and then see her transform that into something for us :) I used to love picking out buttons.
The neighbor you describe sounds like a CLASSIC example of what we're all talking about! I wonder if they ever figured it out! It's in the hands of the Lord.

Holy Moly! Those dresses were for Donna P's wedding...remember? We have not changed hardly at all! (...right)
This is precious. Love those blond curls of yours. And what talent your mom has that she made those dresses.

How cool! I can see ya'lls children in all three of your faces. Amazing!
oh yeah, the ultrasound pics are up.
Very groovy! Had to compare it to this one of mine, taken around the same time. I'm guessing my firstborn, in the leisure suit, is about your age.
First saw your pics on Flickr and love what you do with color in them.
