I don't know what type of flower/weed that is - but as for the bug - I think its a stink bug. Better stay clear of it. Beautiful pictures even with the bug.
Bearing in mind that I have no green in my thumb at all... I am reasonably certain that is a thistle. And a stink bug. I think we all prefer the thistle. :) Like the song goes "Thistle while you work..." Right? No? Hmmm.
I think Alan may be right, that it is in the thistle family. I didn't take a picture, but the stalk on the thing looks wicked - huge thorns. If that thing on it is a stink-bug, I'm glad I didn't get closer! LOL
That is a "horrible thistle" - yes, it's really called that - with a stink bug on it. I love horrible thistle, and so do butterflies. The stems are brutally prickly and thorny, though.

It's thistle, but the bug is a leaf footed bug.
