Granny Jenny's Piano

This was my Grandmother's piano. Everyone else in the family either already has one, or has no need or room for one, so it's here. :)
She could really play, and all by ear. She learned to read a little, but when she was younger she just sat down and taught herself.

The bench has some of her music in it, I guess she bought it more for the words than anything. She would always play a mini-concert for us when we would visit for Thanksgiving or Christmas, until she got to where her arthritis wouldn't let her. More and more, she would request that my sister play instead of her. She broke her hip and had to go into a full time care facility (I don't like the term "nursing home"), so she was away from her piano. There was one where she was staying, so once again, holidays found us all gathered around the piano, singing songs, with her as our audience. She's been gone for a while now, we miss her. I'm proud to have her piano. Who knows, maybe I'll even learn to play something on it. :)

I've really enjoyed your blog over the past year, Sharon. And i just noticed you had no less than 365 posts last year - I'm impressed.

Your post here about your grandma's piano is precious. Reminds me of my silly little gram. She had both an organ and a piano in her livingroom which offered us hours of fun over the years. She was never very good but she tried, and she'd perform goofy little concerts for us with the old songs. Ah, memories of our grandmas . . . what a treasure, huh?

I miss her too. Especially around the holidays. So many wonderful memories. I'm so glad I was able to go see her and play for her one last time just a couple of weeks before she got so sick. No regrets.

We have a pianola and also a baby grand piano as my husband plays piano (pleasure and professional). One of the things I liked about him most was that he played piano. It is a nice instrument and holds its own like no other.
